Israel MTB XC - Mountain Biking at its best

2013 Swiss Mountain Bike Trip

St. Moritz Celerina
The Engadin Valley

Details

Ride a bike through the Engadine valley in the extreme south-east of Switzerland.
Get off the beaten path – cycle through the remote alps, over passes fit for mountain bikers and hikers only.
This high valley runs for 60 miles along a southern terrace of the Alps and has blue skies for over 300 days a year.

On Top of the World
The resorts in this region, St. Moritz, Davos and Klosters, are some of the most famous names in the Alps and offer great hiking and biking trails.

Deserted mountain passes
The most pristine mountain scenery is hidden right here in Engadine. It is the Alps as they have been for hundreds of years – one of the best destinations for the adventurous biker. The nature in the Mountains is breathtakingly awesome, with picturesque mountains, alpine meadows and well-preserved pine forests. We will bike and explore local villages and their ancient architecture.

St. Moritz
The resort Engadin St. Moritz is situated on the southern side of the Swiss Alps, at 1,800 meters above sea level, on the "Roof of Europe". The incomparable harmony of its lake scenery has made the Engadin known throughout the world as the "festival hall of the Alps".

Cultural Heritage
Engadin St. Moritz has a fascinating cultural heritage - Romansch as its official main language, German spoken in St. Moritz, Italian in the neighbouring valleys, French at the Club Med, lots of English for example at the Cresta Run, cricket and polo. Giovanni Segantini and the Giacomettis, Friedrich Nietzsche, Richard Wagner, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Arturo Toscanini, Richard Strauss, Herbert von Karajan and many other famous personalities from the worlds of the arts and culture have contributed to the myth and nimbus of this valley. 'Schlittedas', 'Chalandamarz', an own architectural style (the 'Engadine house'), and the famous Engadine nut tart are also a part of it all.
The Lakes
Lake Sils Lake Sils is the largest lake in Graubünden and, together with lakes St. Moritz, Silvaplana and Champfèr, forms the Upper Engadine chain of lakes. An idyllic hiking and cycling route circumnavigates the lake. The Upper Engadine lakes tour is one of the classics of the Upper Engadine biking tours and passes by lakes Sils, Silvaplana, Champfèr and St. Moritz and ends in the world-famous resort of St. Moritz.

Comfort level
We will stay in a 3 star hotel in Celerina which has all the modern facilities – en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioners, restaurant, work-out room, sauna and of course bike storage facilities.

Fitness level
If you are healthy and practice an active life-style, you are welcome to this bike tour in Engadine! Medium experience in mountain biking is advisable, both stamina and technical. We will be typically riding 30-60 km a day, depending on the terrain. This means 6-8 hours riding per day (actual riding time will be less) including lunch, drinking, energy-bar stops and heaps of sightseeing pauses to take photos. There will be some steep up-hills as we go over 2 mountain passes which we will ride slowly and some amazingly long and adrenaline filled downhills. Some carrying of the bikes will be required on these rides. (More details in the itinerary).
